To comply with legionella prevention guidance; water must be stored at no less than 60 degrees and distributed at no less than 50 degrees, however where the risk of scalding has been identified thermostatic mixer valves (TMV's) are fitted to regulate the temperature at the outlets.

TMV’s have built in strainers usually one on the hot feed and the other on the cold feed. These strainers are designed to prevent the ingress of particulate matter, which could prevent the TMV’s from operating correctly. They also have non return valves to stop cross contamination between hot and cold water systems. All TMV’s should be inspected, cleaned, descaled and disinfected. The strainers should also be cleaned and the operation of the non-return valves checked as part of the above service.
